Project Pengyou Chapter Reunion and Leadership Retreat 2017 Recap

On June 4-5, 2017 Project Pengyou held its annual Chapter Reunion & Leadership Retreat. This year’s event was hosted by the Project Pengyou American University Chapter in Washington, DC. For the third year in a row, Chapter leaders from across the United States gathered to celebrate and learn from each other. They were also joined by a 9 notable Pengyou alumni who lent their constructive insight.

Day One of the Retreat was primarily focused on chapter reflection: what each chapter has learned since its inauguration and what steps they need to take to grow forward. After each Chapter gave individual presentations based on their strengths, they talked as a group about how to improve together to create a positive impact on campus. At the end of Day One, each chapters’ hard work and dedication was recognized at a Pengyou Cup Award Ceremony, where 5 outstanding chapters received special honors.

On Day Two of the Retreat, they all headed to the State Department to receive a briefing on the current state of affairs in US-China relations and participate in a diplomatic simulation. Finally, the delegates were invited to the Johns Hopkins SAIS campus were they meet with and heard talks from SAIS Associate Director of China Madelyn Ross, Program Manager Franklin Eneh, and China Telecom Channel Manager Kan Xiao.
