Meet the Board: A Fireside Chat with Henry Tang

Henry Tang is Managing Partner of Carnegie Towers Group and Co-Founder of the Committee of 100. Henry Tang has 35 years of experience on Wall Street as an investment banker. In 1989, with good friends I.M. Pei, Yo-yo Ma and a few other prominent Chinese-Americans, Mr.Tang co-founded the Committee of 100, the world’s most influential Chinese-American leadership organization.

Mr. Tang continues to be a leading presence in many prominent U.S.-China organizations. Based in New York City he has been engaged in domestic and global securities and banking activities for several of the largest Wall Street investment banks, among them, Salomon Brothers, Lehman Brothers, Prudential, and Jefferies & Co. He is currently the Managing Partner of Carnegie Towers Group.

On November 3, 2013, Golden Bridges had the special opportunity to host Mr. Tang, one of the most devoted promoters of mutual understanding between the U.S. and China, at our hutong courtyard for a fireside chat with current study abroad students and young professionals in Beijing.

Mr. Tang spoke about the importance of the role that the audience members’ can play in the future of U.S.-China relations, as they are armed with a unique set of skills and knowledge that will shape the rest of their careers. He emphasized that all of those students who have come to live and study in China can act as ambassadors to promote U.S.-China relations,  starting with simply talking to their family and friends about China.

Everyone enjoyed hearing his stories as a Chinese-American living in New York during some of the U.S. and China’s most tense periods of international relations, as well as his career advice for recent graduates looking to work in the U.S.-China space.
