Just several days before President-elect Donald Trump assumes office, in what many have called a historically divisive election, Golden Bridges founder Holly Chang penned an open letter to Pengyou-men everywhere, encouraging them not to succumb to feelings of doubt and hopelessness, to seek allies in unlikely places, and to continue to build bridges not only between the US and China but within communities where dialogue is a necessary first-step towards healing.
She also reasserted the importance of Project Pengyou:
“There is hope when you tell your sacred stories and move the hearts of a new audience. There is hope when you can be fully present, in anticipation of an “aha” moment. There is hope in your actions, when you pay it forward on Chinese New Year, or any time of year, so that others can share in your grace. There is hope when you listen deeply to one who protests, and you recognize their pain as your own”
